Avengers: Doomsday has switched trailers again, with the Thor teaser for the movie now streaming online and a third teaser in cinemas revealing a first look at the return of original X-Men stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden as Charles Xavier (Professor X), Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto), and Scott Summers (Cyclops), respectively, in the upcoming ensemble movie.
Speculation about what kind of role the Fox X-Men, which will also include Alan Cumming and Kelsey Grammer among others, would play in the December 2026 release. While some believed that their role in the film could end up being a glorified cameo, the trailer has suggested that this will certainly not be the case.
The trailer opens inside the X-Men Mansion, taking a dark and brooding sweep of the building before showing the wheel of Charles Xavier’s chair, and then the man himself. The scene then shows a chessboard with the king floating, controlled by Xavier. Erik and Charles then hold hands across the board as they contemplate death. The pair smile at each other before the scene cuts to Cyclops removing his visor and screaming as the world around him seems to burn with energy with what appears to be a Sentinal walking across the screen behind him.
The trailer includes narration from McKellen, who says, “Death comes for us all, that’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t are you prepared to die? The question is who would you be when you close your eyes?” The teaser then ends with the Doomsday clock and the words, “The X-Men Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Reportedly Getting Even More Teasers
Avengers: Doomsday is already being hailed as the biggest and potentially highest-grossing movie of 2026, despite having tough competition from the likes of The Mandalorian & Grogu – the first big screen Star Wars release in seven years – Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Disney’s live-action Moana, which will be looking to emulate the success of 2025’s Lilo & Stitch.
It was originally suggested that Marvel Studios would be releasing four teasers for the movie alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash in cinemas across December and January, but latest rumors suggest that may have changed. While a new teaser will still arrive on January 8 – with some now claiming it will feature a mix of Wakandans and the Fantastic Four – it is also believed that a full Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be released during this year’s Super Bowl in February, with other teasers coming in the weeks between.
The release of the trailer during the Super Bowl would seem like a no-brainer. Marvel Studios has had some huge success with Super Bowl trailers, with the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine both shattering records thanks to a boost from one of the biggest sporting events in America. While the Super Bowl could also end up being the perfect jumping point for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to release a first trailer, everyone is now asking if it could be possible that Marvel Studios will actually release two massive trailers at the same time. To find that out, we can only wait and see.
